Are you a serious person in real life? Perhaps you are a backslapper who feels comfortable in any company. Sometimes you have to tell one or two jokes to become the heart of the party. The same Trick works in web design. No one likes capricious and always whining people, no matter how talented they are.

Positive emotions are especially important on the web. Why do most visitors come here? Fun? The enjoyment? Information? Work? The reasons are many, but we don’t think get-down is on the List.

Let’s imagine a typical process of a visitor’s stay on the spot. The web is becoming simpler and more intuitive every day. Everything is oriented to the convenience of the user. Site owners take into account today’s busy lifestyle and try to give customers everything they need as soon as possible.

Using fun elements in web design

Such an approach is absolutely justified on most sites where people know exactly what they want to get. However, the fact is that not all websites are dedicated to quick actions, some show or teach new technologies, and information, and tell about new products or services of the company. Do you want the user to miss the most interesting part of the trip? Let it flow for a minute… We doubtful that you will do something like “like hell!”Even at this point in our narrative, we understand that Swiftness doesn’t fit all websites.

For maximum visibility, we can draw a parallel with real life. We are always in a hurry. First of all, we want to get a good education, then apply for a decent job, then earn a lot of money, buy a house, a car, get married, raise children, and so on and so on. As we get older we understand that we are running at lightning speed in a vicious circle that does not give us a single Chance to enjoy such simple things as Carefree childhood, just hanging out with friends, we did not notice how our children turned into mature.

Yes, it’s a sad truth about the life cycle that we understand when it’s too after. We are old, sick and weak to create room for maneuver. Many, especially Eastern religions, say that the goal of our life is not the realization itself, but the path that we should follow to achieve it. Does this make sense to you?

We are sorry if the above words upset you, in fact, we just wanted to make you think about not depriving your customers of the enjoyment of emotional design.

Here, some developers will say that a playful and humorous approach does not fit all corporate designs. If you want to know our point of view, we think that such an attitude can be applied to any design, be it a financial enterprise or a toy store. Therefore, some customers want their websites to be solid and serious. In this matter, the designer must meet all his requirements, because the customer is always right.

However, our blog aims to help interested developers and convince their customers to make their Designs more playful, joyful, positive and humorous. We have even compiled a collection of free user interface elements that make each site look more inviting, user-friendly and attractive. You can also use ready-made templates for this purpose.

If you are not sure that Playful Designs are really cool, here are the arguments to defend our Position.

Why let users Play?

Do you need to motivate users to investigate? Let them play. Playing is the most natural motivation. Everyone knows how to play, you do not need instructions. Why? Because we all learned in our childhood through games. No one needs extra reasons to play because that’s the activity we love.

A fun environment is a way to overcome technological barriers and fill knowledge gaps. What are the most frequent reactions of users when confronted with a not-known interactive tool or a new Technology? Hesitation, Confusion or fear (maybe all at once). But what if it’s just a playground? How would you feel then? Maybe Curiosity? When we have fun, we lose our fear of the not-known and are very happy to take the not-known objects and experiment with them. By the way, teaching new tricks to older users (who are not friends with new technologies) is a good life hack without them realizing that they are learning. Why should you bother? The reason is quite mercantile. Do you want to expand your audience? This is not the worst way to do it.

Psychological Background. It is in human nature to learn to play a new game, either by experimenting or by observing and imitating others. We do not mean that learning by mimicry is something that usually happens in interactive applications. But when people look at others who look like they are having fun playing with cool apps, they have to look over their shoulder and then look at the app itself.

When is playfulness appropriate?

As we have already mentioned above, it is possible to include some elements of the game in any Design, but there are many categories of websites where a playful style fits perfectly. They are: Music, Movies, Games, enjoyment sites, interactive facilities, children’s toy and clothing stores, Children’s chains, real estate agencies, restaurant sites. Even some solid brands like Nike, for example, have discovered their benefits of playfulness and interactive experience, which greatly increases UX and Conversions.
